About
Antonio J. Covarrubias, M.D. was born in Mission Viejo California. When he was eight years old, he moved to Argentina with his family where he grew up and studied medicine. After graduating medical school from the Universidad Catolica De Cordoba, Facultad De Medicina, he returned to the United States of America to complete his training. Dr. Covarrubias attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and Loma Linda University, completing his general surgery internship and residency, then on to the University of California San Diego to complete his fellowship training in Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Covarrubias specializes in vascular diseases including but not limited to leg pain and discomfort due to chronic venous insufficiency, varicose veins and arterial Insufficiency, wounds, limb preservation, aneurysmal disease, and hemodialysis access.
Special areas of interest and expertise include carotid artery disease and stroke prevention. His expertise includes treating carotid artery disease utilizing a minimally invasive procedure called Transcarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) which he performs at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center.
Dr. Covarrubias utilizes the latest technologies to treat vascular conditions including minimally invasive procedures, when appropriate. He treats his patients as he would treat his own family. Dr. Covarrubias is fluent in English and Spanish.
Working hard to make patients feel better is extremely satisfying to Dr. Covarrubias. A real family man at heart, he loves spending time with his wife and baby daughter, living in Orange County and when time permits, enjoying his hobbies which include soccer, golf, snowboarding and the beach.
