About
Editha Tanig-Sanjongco has always had a strong passion for helping others, which naturally led her to pursue a career in medicine. “My interest in health care became deeply personal during high school, when my father suffered a heart attack,” she says. “Witnessing the compassionate and skilled care he received made a lasting impact on me and inspired my commitment to providing that same level of care to others.”
Editha grew up in the Philippines, and that is where she says her love for caring for others truly began. “The sense of community, compassion, and strong family values I experienced growing up had a big influence on the way I approach patient care today. I'm also fluent in Tagalog, which allows me to connect more deeply with patients who speak the language and ensure they feel understood and comfortable during their care.”
As a nurse practitioner in primary care, Editha values the opportunity to build lasting relationships with patients.
“I value the chance to focus not only on treating illness but also on prevention, education, and overall wellness. My goal is to offer comprehensive care that supports patients through every stage of life. I want my patients to know that I'm committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care, and that I'll always advocate for their well-being. I see every visit as an opportunity to build trust and make a positive impact on their overall health.”
Whether it's helping someone manage a chronic condition, guiding them through a health scare, or simply encouraging small steps toward a healthier lifestyle, Editha finds it incredibly rewarding to be a consistent source of support and care. “I also find deep fulfillment in patient education—taking the time to ensure people understand their health, feel empowered to ask questions, and are active participants in their care. I take the time to listen, to understand their concerns, and to involve them in their care decisions. My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where they feel heard, respected, and supported.”
Editha began her nursing career 28 years ago at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, and she is excited to be coming full circle by returning to MemorialCare with more than 20 years of experience in healthcare. Outside of work, Ishe says she “loves cooking and trying new recipes, which probably reflects my attention to detail and enjoyment of caring for others. I also enjoy traveling with my family when I can--it helps me stay grounded and energized.
