MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of its 200th MR-Guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) procedure, reinforcing its commitment to advancing neurological care and improving the lives of patients with essential tremor and tremor-dominant Parkinson’s Disease. As one of the few centers in Southern California offering this advanced procedure, Orange Coast Medical Center is changing lives by providing patients with immediate, lasting relief from uncontrollable tremors. Under the leadership of Dr. Devin Binder, the most experienced MRgFUS neurosurgeon on the west coast, the Orange Coast program has provided more patients with this tremor-alleviating procedure than any other program in Southern California.
"Reaching our 200th MRgFUS procedure is a testament to our dedication and commitment to advancing treatment for essential tremor and tremor-dominant Parkinson’s Disease,” said Devin K. Binder, M.D., medical director, Neuroscience Institute, MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center. “This technology has revolutionized care, offering patients a non-invasive solution that significantly improves their quality of life. We are proud to be at the forefront of neurological innovation."
MRgFUS is a groundbreaking, non-invasive treatment for essential tremor and tremor-dominant Parkinson’s Disease. For decades, treatment options were limited. However, MRgFUS has revolutionized care – using precise ultrasound waves, guided by MRI technology, to target the area of the brain responsible for tremors. The procedure requires no incisions, no implants, and no radiation, allowing patients to experience immediate and lasting relief with minimal recovery time.
Dr. Binder and the care team performed the program’s 200th procedure on Ralph, a patient who had suffered from tremors for over 40 years. The treatment instantly restored control to his dominant hand, allowing him to once again sign his name and eat without assistance.
"For years, essential tremor affected every aspect of my life,” said Ralph. “After my procedure, I noticed an immediate difference. It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to finally regain control – I have my confidence back, and I can do the simple things I once struggled with.”
Despite being the most common movement disorder, essential tremor remains largely underdiagnosed and undertreated. Many individuals simply accept their tremors as an unavoidable part of aging, unaware that effective treatments exist. Orange Coast Medical Center is determined to change that.
“With every procedure, we are giving patients more than just relief from tremors – we are restoring their independence, their dignity, and their ability to enjoy life’s everyday moments.”

With this 200th procedure marking a major milestone, Orange Coast Medical Center and the expert team remain committed to expanding access to this life-changing treatment through their Movement Disorders Program, ensuring that patients can experience freedom from tremors.
